LIVE DETONATION: PERFORMING A SPECTRAL SEXUALITY IN THE MIDDLE OF A SYMBOLIC WAR
Dominant narratives of sexuality as created by and represented in mass media and pop culture are part of an oppressive cultural grammar that is learned and reified by active and passive consumers of its products. This five-day workshop engages the video and performance as a strategy to challenge the prevailing power structure, proposing performance of spectral sexuality to question/deconstruct the status quo and give rise to a series of disobedient answers and resistance. The intensive culminates in the production of work as graduate students merge their emergent practices with performance methodology and confront the war being waged in the symbolic realm by great monopolies of the communication industry.
